This web site provides information on professional resources and professional development experiences that you can use to create or develop first-year experience seminars and programs for college student success.

Colleges and universities are now putting more emphasis on student retention and diversity education than ever before. Student persistence starts when new students transition successfully and acquire foundational skills upon which they can build long-term success.

We believe that a transformative first-year experience is one that is comprehensive, educates the higher education student as a whole person, and equips new students with research-based strategies to learn deeply, think at a higher level, and make the most of diversity.

An intentionally designed first-year program has the capacity to do much more than promote new students’ college adjustment and survival; it has the potential to equip students with durable and transferable life skills for thriving in college and beyond.
